Is there a preferred/recommended motel near the airport if we are flying in to the tour? Yes, we recommend the Earth City Courtyard by Marriott. They have low weekend rates and an airport shuttle van at your disposal, and are located just a short distance from both Lambert-St. Louis airport and Downtown St. Charles, where our KATY trail ride ends.
We don't drink. Can we skip the winery tours? Yes, you may; however, at certain locations if you pass on the winery stop, you may also miss out on that day's attraction tour, as sometimes they are along the same route and we can't separate the two.
What's the weather like? Our May tours typically experience highs in the upper 70's to low 80's. Since May is a transition month between spring and summer, there can be a fair chance of some rain on at least one day, perhaps more. The advantage of a supported tour is that you can always abandon your bike and ride in the support van if it rains too much or too long! August-September-October tours are in the middle of the driest time of year, so the chance of rain is quite low-although not completely zero! Temperatures in August can reach the lower 90's, although 80's are more typical. Late September-early October dates get progressively cooler, and it's possible you may want long sleeves and a jacket on some of the cooler October mornings.
What is included in the registration fee? Just about everything! All your overnight lodging, all transportation, all tour entry fees, all meals EXCEPT Tuesday night in Jefferson City when you will have a selection of restaurants from which to choose. Your only responsibility will be for alcoholic beverages at wineries, breweries, or meals; any souvenirs or personal items.
